About Us, Our Ideas, Our Vision

Knowledge and experience encompassing a unique style and approach to make the college process as rewarding and meaningful as possible!

Barbara Bergman

With over 30 years of experience working in college admissions and college counseling, Barbara’s understanding of college admissions is comprehensive and deep, and her knowledge of colleges and universities is extensive.  She provides students and their parents with insightful and strategic assistance with the college process in a caring and thoughtful manner.

Before founding Bergman College Consulting in 2017, Barbara was Director of College Counseling at Georgetown Day School for 16 years and provided comprehensive college counseling to students with a wide array of interests, academic abilities, learning disabilities, talents, and financial resources. She has visited countless colleges and universities and assisted hundreds of students in their college search and application process with a goal of making it as rewarding, educational, enjoyable and stress-free as possible.  She approaches her work in a thoughtful and calm manner and uses her humor and sage advice to help families keep the college process in perspective. She loves working with students and helping families navigate the complexities of current day college admissions.

Prior to her time at Georgetown Day School, Barbara worked in undergraduate admissions at Georgetown University where she moved up through the ranks to become the Associate Dean of Admissions for 15 years.  During her tenure at Georgetown, she read thousands of applications for freshman and transfer admissions, chaired admissions committees, interviewed applicants, visited high schools around the globe, and coordinated the admissions process for students applying from overseas. Her years of experience working on both sides of the desk provide her with a unique perspective that enables her to provide expert and strategic guidance to families with whom she works.

Barbara received a B.A. from Colgate University and an M.A. from George Washington University. She loves getting to know students, working with them and discovering their strengths, talents, hopes and dreams. Developing an initial college list for a student and then honing it until it fits in all regards is one of the most satisfying parts of the job, and figuring out how to most effectively relay to a college who a student is and what makes him or her special is a challenge she thoroughly enjoys.

Louise Brennan

A teacher for almost 20 years at Georgetown Day School (GDS), Louise holds a B.A. from Middlebury College and an M.A. from the University of Virginia.  She served as chairperson of the GDS English Department for eight years and was a beloved teacher and mentor to many students.  Louise especially enjoyed her work with seniors, both in their classroom endeavors and in their college application process.

Louise loves working with students on the college essay, which often becomes one of the most compelling and insightful pieces that high school students write.  She has guided hundreds of students through the college essay process and she approaches her work in an encouraging and creative manner.  Her goal is to help students craft an essay that conveys thoughtful insights and that reflects meaningful information that isn’t relayed elsewhere in the application.  She coaches students through the writing process from the perspective that the essay must be in the student’s unique voice and must reflect his or her own ideas, views and words.
